Modern Jazz
CLASS: leotard, fitted bike shorts or leggings, black soft-soled jazz shoes (optional sports crop top under leotard and tights under shorts/leggings) with hair in a neat bun.
EXAM: black soft-soled jazz shoes, coloured leotard, flesh fishnets and black ¾ leggings with hair in a slick bun
Open Jazz
CLASS: black soft-soled jazz shoes (or jazz sneakers for teens & adults, sometimes chorus shoes for cabaret), neat dance/exercise wear (not too baggy!), hair pulled back
Musical Theatre
CLASS: refer to Modern Jazz. Tap shoes may also be required.
Classical Grades
CLASS: leotard, pink tights, leather ballet shoes (with ribbons from Grade 1 and up) and hair in a neat bun, Grade 5 & 6 also require character shoes and skirt.
EXAM: same as class with leotard colour for appropriate grade:
- Pre-primary & Primary – pink
- Grade 1, 2 & 3 – blue
- Grade 4, 5 & 6 – purple
Classical Majors
CLASS: leotard, pink tights, demi pointe and pointe shoes with hair in a neat bun.
EXAM: same as class, but with black CSTD official leotard
Hip hop
CLASS:Dancer’s choice! We recommend something a bit more loose-fitting to get into the style. Own choice of sneakers.
Acrobatics
CLASS: fitted, neat dance or exercise wear (nothing that will get caught) and clean, bare feet
Contemporary
CLASS: same as acrobatics or Modern Jazz without shoes. Dancers may want knee pads and a sleeved top for floor work. EXAM: same as Modern Jazz exam without shoes – tights need to be footless.
Tap
CLASS: fitted, neat dance or exercise wear, black tap shoes.
EXAM: same as Modern Jazz, but with black tap shoes.
